About the Book:

1) Considering a book from the first word you write to the moment you see it on a bookstore shelf, what’s your favorite part of the process? What’s your least favorite?
Well, I love the actual process of writing--I'm the kind of person who really enjoys playing with words and working on scenes. But even a job you love is still difficult sometimes, and there are moments during every book when I don't feel like going to my office and a particular chapter isn't going well, and I would rather be doing just about anything else. Luckily, if you keep forging ahead through those tough days (or weeks) you eventually start having fun again. And the part I love best by far is plotting and imagining the story before I start on that first page. The "what if" part. I let my imagination go free, and daydream as much as I want.
2) Rainshadow Road is a great title! Who came up with it?
Thank you, it actually presented itself when I wasn't even thinking about titles! My husband Greg had taken me and the kids to Friday Harbor (on San Juan Island, not far from the cast of Washington State) for a weekend. The island was gorgeous, and somewhat mystical with the ocean-and-mountains scenery, and I started imagining plot possibilities as we were driving around. And then we passed a sign for a private drive named "Rainshadow Road." It felt like a stroke of fate. I knew immediately that I had to use it as a book title, and the story came to me almost immediately.
3) Who’s your favorite character in the book and why? Who was the most fun to write?
I love all the characters in Rainshadow Road, but the most fun part for me was to create the dynamics between the three Nolan brothers, Mark, Sam and Alex. Their parents were both alcoholics, and each brother has found his own way of coping and surviving. Sam, the hero of Rainshadow Road, uses humor as a defense mechanism, and I had a great time writing his dialogue. But there is also something very sad and poignant about how he needs to be loved and yet fears it at the same time. He is a different kind of hero for me, a little geeky but still sexy.
4) This would make a great film. Any talks of turning your book into a movie?
I'm so glad you asked! As a matter of fact, the Hallmark Channel has just made an offer for the rights to Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, the novella that launched the series. I am so excited, especially because Hallmark is known for doing such terrific high-quality productions. I can't wait to see who they cast in the roles of the Nolan brothers.
5) What's up next for you?
The next book in the series is Dream Lake, and it features Alex Nolan, the youngest brother, who is a borderline alcoholic, and he is haunted by the ghost of a World War II fighter pilot. While helping the ghost to resolve his past, Alex falls in love with Zoe Hoffman, the cook and part owner of a bed-and-breakfast at Friday Harbor. I had the most tremendous time writing Dream Lake, with all the angst and passion and longing . . . I don't know why I love writing tormented heroes so much, but I do!

I loved the first book in the series, and am super excited about this one! I adore all three of the brothers, and since I'm from Washington, I adore the local references. The San Juan Islands are breathtaking.
Love all of your books Lisa! The Nolans make for a fantastic read, I plugged Rainshadow Road to all of my friends on FB-especially the ones I sent your copies of Christmas at Friday Harbor to. Coincidentally, I was in the middle of reading Anne Rule's No Regrets-which takes place on San Juan/Friday Hardbor when I put it down to read your long awaited sequel! Weird!!lol your books are magical!
